Small Business owners, entrepreneurs and young professionals are pulled in a lot of directions – work, family, friends – but what about civic engagement? One of the biggest challenges facing the small business community and young professionals is finding the right avenue to influence public policy and connect with lawmakers. Outside voting, there are many way to get involved! The purpose of this event is to provide a starting point for those interested in advocacy and finding the best fit. Our panel will include former office holders and political staffers, who will discuss methods of engagement at different levels of government.
5:30 – 6:00 PM – Registration and mingling with light refreshments
6:00 – 7:00 PM – Fireside chat with panelists
7:00 – 7:30 PM – Networking and time to chat with panelists
The fireside chat will take place with 3 panelists with experience in government and running field campaigns. Each person will have 2 minutes to introduce themselves and then will be fielding questions from our moderator, SBAC CEO Elliot Richardson.
Manny Flores is a partner with the law firm of Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr, LLP. Manny previously served in the public spotlight as Acting Secretary of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), Acting Chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission and Alderman of the 1st Ward in the Chicago City Council.
Mo Green is the Senior Community Outreach Coordinator for U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth. Mo has worked with Tammy Duckworth for 2.5 years, prior serving as Political Director at Tammy for Illinois. Additionally, Mo worked as Regional Field Director for U.S. Senator Dick Durbin and Campaign Manager/Consultant at New Chicago Consulting, LLC. Mo holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from University of Chicago.
Kyle Haevers is a republican campaign operative with experience running political operations in Chicago and the collar counties. In 2014, he lead the field program in Lake and McHenry counties for Governor Bruce Rauner’s successful statewide bid. He then went on to manage the campaign for top republican target, State Rep. Michael McAuliffe, who successfully withstood a well-funded challenger. Kyle is currently the campaign manager for the GOP candidate in the 10th congressional district of Illinois, Jeremy Wynes.
